E-Commerce Case Study

Sassy Pup Dog Boutique

The problem: Sassy Pup is an online dog boutique that sells pet products in a very competitive environment. Ad Hoc Marketing was hired to help with their SEO after they were disappointed with their previous SEO firm. One of the things we tried was to try a pay per click campaign. Competing with giant pet stores, such as Petco, however, made most phrases very expensive.

The solution: After running a pay per click campaign and seeing the budget depleted pretty quickly, it was decided to focus all the effort on SEO. It didn’t take long to realize that while SEO  took longer to implement for some phrases the long term financial benefit. After more than 2 years of work on their site, they now have thousands of visitors each day. In 2011 they had over 400,000 visitors from more than 135,000 different keyword. To have generated that amount of traffic with pay per click would have cost millions of dollars. For example, there were more than 12,000 visitors looking for dog beds.  This phrase alone would have cost 15,000 dollars. Over the length of our work on the site, the number using this phrase was over 36,000. This single phrase alone more than paid for our services.

The result: Primarily through SEO, Sassy Pup’s traffic increased by more than 100,000 visitors each of the past two years.

“Ad Hoc Marketing has been doing SEO for our company for 2+ years and we have been quite happy. Scott is ahead of the game, always knows what the ‘new’ thing search engines are looking for, and advises accordingly. Scott is great about feedback, updated status of rankings of certain keywords, and best of all, is great about letting us know what he is working and what we should shoot for in the future. Overall very happy with his work.”
