Dear friend,

As I sit down to write to you, I can't help, but look with pride out my window. An American flag is blowing in the wind. In these troubled times, it is still the symbol of all that is great in our country. I'm also proud of the fact that it was our people that sold these exceptional flags.

There is no better way to honor the men and women who serve our country then by displaying the American flag.

ARC is once again running a Flag Fundraiser and we have even more to offer this year. High quality flags at prices lower than you’d expect. This is what we are offering.

The favorite flag from last season remains the one that sells for $27.00. This beautifully crafted flag has individually sewn stripes and embroidered stars on rugged nylon fabric. This flag is three feet by five. When you pick it up you can feel its sturdy material. The seams are solid lines and the colors are striking. The stars are embroidered on giving them a depth.

But we have more than this type of flag. Most stores offer only 2 or 3 sizes. We offer a half dozen. We offer flags for the home or for a business. Just look at our order form to see the variety we have in stock. Less expensive flags sell for $18.00 each. Despite the lower price, don’t mistake there quality. They’re superior to those found in most stores.

We also offer the Iowa State Flag. Once again the colors are vibrant.  The vertical red and blue strips frame the image of an eagle clutching a banner. On it is written the state motto "Our liberties we prize, and our rights we will maintain"

Perhaps you already have a flag. Take a moment to look at it. Is it torn or have the colors faded. Is it really honoring our country if your flag is ruined? This is the ideal time in which to replace it.

And what about other family members? With Father’s Day approaching can you think of a better gift, especially if they are a veteran?

Does your flag fly in the wind? Or is it constantly wrapping around the pole?

I often hear people complain that the flags they have become tangled up when the wind is blowing. They were frustrated by the fact that they had no way to prevent flags from wrapping around poles. This year we are offering a non-furling device that works on one-inch poles.

This device will make any flag wave proudly, no matter what the wind conditions. This attachment also helps to make your flag last that much longer. It’s a simple and inexpensive attachment. No matter which way the wind is blowing your flag will continue to fly freely in the wind.

In addition to showing your support of the armed services, the money raised will go to help the men and women we serve.

ARC has helped hundreds of mentally handicapped adults to become more independent, to live in the community and become active participants. Where once most mentally handicapped were shut in a large facility, we've integrated them into the community. Many have jobs, working in Burger King, McDonalds, McGraw Hill. Yet, the training and the care for the people we serve costs money. And each year the state and federal government make cutbacks.

The money from the Flag Fundraiser will help to continue this philosophy.  So please if you are thinking of buying a flag anytime in the near future, do it now. Help us to continue to do our work.
